Yesterday, Today Tomorrow I Support A Hell of a Guy - Workology

Yesterday, Today Tomorrow I Support A Hell of a Guy Yesterday, Today Tomorrow I Support A Hell of a Guy Today is my birthday, but today really isnt about me at all.  I dont want it to be.  Because today is about someone else who happens to have the same birthday as me.  No, not Tiffani Amber-Thiessen although I remember being very excited at age 12 that we shared the same birthday.  Oh Saved by the Bell, my favorite show.  Nope, today isnt about me or Tiffani.  Today is about Paul.  His birthday also happens to be today. The funny thing about the social media community for all the gossiping, backbiting, and just drama that ensues, we do support one another.  Personally, I prefer to not participate in much of the drama chain that occurs as we sometimes tear each other  down to build ourselves or our friends up.  This is not one of those times.  Not at all. Today is About Paul I met Paul in real life in what seems like a million years ago.  It was late 2009 at the first ever HR Evolution.  For those of you that dont know HR Evolution is an unconference created just for the social media HR and recruiting community.  It was a chance to meet IRL with some of my social media HR co-conspirators who were talking, pushing, and testing the waters in our space.  I was  a broke, scared new  entrepreneur and new mom.  And even then, Paul was brilliant.  He seemed to have this  entrepreneur  thing all figured out.   He caused trouble, took chances and said those obvious things that sometimes need to be said but no one does except Paul.  He influenced me and continues to do so ALOT.  Plus, he was funny, witty, and knew his shit.  Thats a hard thing to do in the world of HR. I admire Paul for a lot of reasons but none more than what he is doing now.  Paul is battling bladder cancer and is using a blog to keep folks updated like me and maybe you.  Check out PeeStrong to see what Paul calls, the one-sided conversation about my bladder.  Bladder cancer like any cancer really sucks but its relatively small in numbers with only  72,000 new diagnoses in 2013. I dont know a person who has been affected by some form of cancer either themselves, a family member or friend.  I have a special place in my heart for those that undergo chemotherapy and radiation as I watched my husbands dad battle throat cancer for three years.  Six months after we lost my father in law, my sister in law was diagnosed with breast cancer.  After a double mastectomy, chemo, and radiation, she is absolutely cancer free. So today its not about me or my birthday, although I thank you for your kind and warm thoughts.  So far, its been a mighty fine day.  For me today, is about my friend, Paul Hebert and his amazing courage and the family and friends that are supporting him.  Plus, the guy is just awesome.  He knows his shit.  Today is about the social media and technology that brings us together to support Paul even though we are thousands miles apart.  Happy birthday, Paul.  You are a hell of a guy and I support you.  Heres to many more birthdays celebrated for you and me.  And with Tiffani too.  Theres always Saved by the Bell re-runs and White Collar. Yesterday, Today Tomorrow I Support A Hell of a Guy Just Google Tim Sackett Day or follow the Twitter hash tag, #timsackettday to see how why so many industry folks are singing the praises of Paul.

This shows all associations including: Retweets of your tweets Somebody favorited your tweet Tails you Notices your name How I utilize this: This is a super method to screen what is being said about your on Twitter! I like the way that it is across the board spot. Recognize individuals who have shared my tweets or referenced me I can decided to follow back individuals who have tailed me I do locate this somewhat overpowering some of the time so I like to go to the MENTIONS directly under the INTERACTIONS alternative to thank individuals for their retweets. Just my own inclination. #Discover Outwardly engaging, Twitter is utilizing the #Discover page to show top reports and Trending Topics on Twitter. Stories are customized for you dependent on ongoing prevalence and your associations, area, and language. There is so much data being shared on Twitter and this can be a decent spot to go to discover an overview of top stories applicable to you. How I utilize this: Keep current on patterns and news that may be essential to me. Skimming You dont need to peruse each tweet sent by everyone. You dont read each and every article in the news paper, isn't that right? I have discovered that making records is perhaps the most ideal approaches to channel what is imperative to me. Each time I tail somebody, I arrange them dependent on what they are discussing. Tweetdeck My conviction is that those that dont truly like Twitter arent utilizing Tweetdeck (or Hootesuite or the like). Heres why I LOVE Tweetdeck; It permits me to all the more likely observe what individuals are stating on the grounds that I can make numerous segments. I can plan tweets for the future so I dont overpower adherents with such a large number of tweets sent at once. How to Answer, Why Do You Want to Leave Your Current Position - Walrath Recruiting, Inc.

How to Answer, “Why Do You Want to Leave Your Current Position” - Walrath Recruiting, Inc. You’re in an interview and you’re asked, “why do you want to leave your current position?”. Should you be brutally honest? Or are you supposed to be vague? If you’re too vague do you sound dishonest? How do you answer properly without regretting your answer out loud? Here are a few different ways to go about it. When Youre Looking to Make More Money If making more money is the sole reason for you wanting to leave your current position â€" be aware of the way in which you explain it. Maybe you have adopted more responsibilities throughout your role and in turn, desired a higher compensation or the role itself statistically earns more in your area but your company’s budget may not allow for it. Regardless of the reason you just simply were looking to make more money. One way to explain this is stating that youve adopted more responsibilities/have gained a significant amount of career growth and are looking for a positions compensation to reflect that. When You Don’t Like the Company Culture Although this may seem like a touchy topic to get into, wanting to leave your position because of the company culture â€" being your coworkers, manager or even your boss â€" is very common. One way to address that youre wanting to leave your current position due to indifferences is saying something such as I’m looking for a different type of company culture. Then elaborate about how you want: a more collaborative, communicative, more hands-on work environment or whatever applies. This will imply that you are not happy with your current company culture while putting a positive spin on it. When You Want Upward Mobility If youre looking for a new position with the ability to advance in your career and your current position does not provide upward mobilityâ€" you can simply share just that. “I am at the point in my career where I am looking for growth, and unfortunately my position doesn’t offer promotions, advancements etc and I am hoping to continue to move up in my career elsewhere”. When You Dont Enjoy Your Job Any Longer Regardless of the reasoning, sometimes you just don’t enjoy your job. And that’s ok. And it’s also ok to be completely honest about that. Here’s an example from The Muse on what to say if your position wasn’t a good fit for you, “I was really excited to start in a role that worked so closely with local wildlife and contributed to such a meaningful cause. I think, because of that, I neglected to learn more about the actual ins and outs of the company. It didn’t take me long to realize that I wasn’t a good cultural fit. Since then I’ve been seeking a role in a company that values transparency, one where I can continue to make an impact”. If You Don’t Enjoy the Schedule/Looking for More Balance If you are interviewing for a position that offers a more flexible work schedule and you are leaving your current job solely for wanting more flexibility â€" you can address it by saying something like  â€œI’m excited about the opportunity of the position relating to x, y, and z, and I also appreciate the fact that you acknowledge more work/life balance here”. If You Want a Career Change The position you are interviewing for is completely different than your current role. In the interview, put the focus on your skill set and what you have gained from your previous experience, and explain how those skills and responsibilities would benefit you in this current role. What Not to Do: Regardless of your reason for leaving your current position, you never want to talk negatively about the company, coworkers, or your boss and in result create an awkward situation. Instead, talk about the things you are looking forward to with a new position and the opportunities you would like to gain.
